01.04.10 BG Capital hosts CFO conference titled “Capital Raising on European Stock Exchanges”
On March 31, BG Capital hosted a conference titled “Capital Raising on European Stock Exchanges.” The event was attended by top managers and Chief Financial Officers (CFO) from more than 30 companies from Ukraine and the region operating in the banking, agriculture, food, metallurgy, construction, and transportation industries. Notable attendees included the Industrial Union of Donbas, Bank of Georgia, Slavutich, Club Cyru, Petrus, Sadovaya Group, and others.
Participants examined the IPO market for Ukrainian companies in 2010, with a focus on legal issues related to raising foreign capital. Management from Sintal Agriculture and Ukrproduct Group, two companies that successfully completed respective placements in 2009 and 2005, shared invaluable knowledge from their experiences in preparing for the listings and providing post-placement IR support.
In the course of the conference, Eugene Cherviachenko, BG Capital’s Vice President of Corporate Finance, projected that the total turnover of Ukrainian companies listed on European stock exchanges would amount to US$ 3 billion in 2009. “We expect roughly 20 Ukrainian companies will attempt IPOs in 2010, which would allow them to raise over US$ 300 million via placement,” according to Mr. Cherviachenko. He noted a wide range of companies, valued from US$ 50 million to as large as US$ 450 million, are currently interested in the equity placement option. In addition, 80% of all the companies that are currently nearing IPOs are companies from the agricultural sector. Mr. Cherviachenko also forecasted that about 30% of Ukrainian companies that are planning IPOs in 2010 will complete placements on European stock markets, with the Frankfurt and Warsaw platforms being the most convenient choices this year.
