According to a report in today’s Kommersant, the Russian government is pushing to replace Motor Sich’s D-436-148 engine for the An-148 model plane with a Saturn/Snecma SAM146 engine (joint Russian-French project). Motor Sich’s President Vyacheslav Boguslaev, however, said the move is aimed at pressuring the company into dropping the price of its engine. Boguslaev noted that the plan looks fairly unrealistic given it would need approval from Ukraine’s Antonov, the maker of the An-148, and as the Saturn/Snecma engine has yet to be certified in Russia.
